Breast lift with an “inner bra”.

When I ask patients for a Breast lift or Breast reduction When I explain what they can expect in the long term, sooner or later the same question always comes up: How long will the result last? The honest answer is: That depends on many factors – the tissue, the skin quality, body weight, and gravity. However, it's a question I can answer with more confidence than before, since I started using GalaFLEX® in my clinic.

What is GalaFLEX?

GalaFLEX® is a bioresorbable tissue mesh that I use after breast surgeries such as breast lift, breast reduction or breast augmentation I use it to stabilize and support breast tissue. It consists of poly-4-hydroxybutyric acid – P4HB for short – a polymer naturally occurring in the human body that it recognizes and can process.

What makes this material so special is that it doesn't remain permanently in the body. Within 18 to 24 months, the body completely breaks down the mesh – naturally, as carbon dioxide and water. What remains is not a foreign body, but rather the body's own collagen and connective tissue that has been newly formed by the GalaFLEX scaffold. According to preclinical data, this tissue is up to 3 to 4 times stronger than the original tissue before the operation.

The inner bra – what's behind it??

The term "internal bra" perfectly describes what the GalaFLEX mesh does: During the healing phase, it takes over the support function normally provided by an external bra – from the inside, directly within the tissue. The mesh is placed in the lower breast area, precisely where gravity exerts the greatest long-term stress on the tissue.

While the body gradually breaks down the existing mesh, P4HB simultaneously stimulates the formation of new, stable connective tissue. The breast is supported by the body's own tissue – not by a permanent implant. The result remains stable for significantly longer than without this support, reducing the risk of the breasts sagging again.

When do I use GalaFLEX?

GalaFLEX® is not necessary for every breast surgery – but in certain situations, it makes all the difference. I use it in cases of pronounced sagging after pregnancy or significant weight loss, in cases of weaker connective tissue that requires additional support, in cases of particularly large or heavy breasts, and in revision surgeries when a previous procedure has not remained stable in the long term.

Aftercare – no difference to standard surgery

A common misconception: Many patients believe that using a mesh makes aftercare more complicated. This is not the case. Aftercare following breast surgery with GalaFLEX® is no different from surgery without the mesh – no need for a longer compression bra, no additional check-ups, no special restrictions.
