VDÄPC Annual Congress 2026

On March 13th and 14th, 2026, I attended the 30th Annual Spring Meeting of the VDÄPC – the Association of German Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons – at the Grand Hyatt Berlin. This congress brings together leading specialists in plastic and aesthetic surgery from German-speaking countries and beyond each year.

What I particularly enjoyed about this year was that I was not only a participant, but also a member of an expert panel – and gave a presentation that was thematically different.

Not medicine, but entrepreneurship

My topic was not a surgical procedure, a new operating technique, or the current state of research. I spoke about the successful establishment and management of a licensed private clinic according to §30 of the German Trade Regulation Act (GewO).

This might seem surprising at first glance – speaking about hospital management at a medical conference. But it's a very timely topic. More and more specialists want to become self-employed, to establish their own practice or clinic – and are faced with questions that simply aren't covered in their specialist training. How does a Section 30 license work? How do you build a team that grows with you? How do you run a clinic that is both medically and financially sustainable?

Drawing on almost 20 years of experience as a practicing specialist and clinic director in Berlin-Charlottenburg, I have been happy to share my insights – both the positive and the difficult ones.

What particularly moved me about this congress

The VDÄPC Congress is one of the most important national gatherings for our field. The combination of scientific exchange, collegial discussions, and looking beyond our own horizons – including towards practice and clinic management – ​​makes it valuable every year.

The fact that my expertise as a clinic operator is in demand in such a context is, in my view, confirmation of a path I have consciously chosen: to run a clinic that not only operates at the highest medical level, but in which patients feel truly well cared for from the first inquiry to the final follow-up care.
