The so-called fat-removal injection (injection lipolysis) is a minimally invasive method for the targeted reduction of small fat deposits. It is ideal for patients who want to remove stubborn fat deposits – without surgery or extended downtime. At our clinic in Berlin, we use this method with many years of experience.

Who is the fat-removal injection suitable for?

The treatment is particularly suitable for:

  • local fatty tissue, e.g. on the double chin, upper arms, hips or knees

  • small fat deposits that persist despite exercise and a healthy diet

  • People with normal body weight and stable skin structure

Injection lipolysis is not suitable for people who are severely overweight, have severe skin sagging, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How does injection lipolysis work?

The active ingredient – usually deoxycholic acid – is injected directly into the fatty tissue. There, it destroys the membranes of the fat cells, which are then eliminated by the body via the lymphatic system and liver. Since the affected cells do not regrow, the results are permanent – provided body weight remains stable.

Course of treatment

  1. Consulting and analysis: We discuss your wishes, examine the treatment area and create an individual treatment plan.

  2. Preparation: The skin is cleansed and, if necessary, locally anesthetized.

  3. Injection: The active ingredient is introduced into the fatty tissue using very fine needles.

  4. Aftercare: A short massage helps ensure even distribution.

The treatment takes about 20 to 45 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis.

Number of sessions and duration

Typically, 2 to 4 sessions are required, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart. Initial results are visible after 4 to 6 weeks at the earliest. The full result is usually visible after 2 to 3 months.

Possible side effects and risks

Mild, temporary reactions may occur after treatment:

  • Swelling, redness or bruising

  • Feeling of tension or sensitivity to pressure

  • temporary hardening or nodule formation

  • rare: pigment changes or infections

The side effects mentioned are generally harmless and resolve on their own. Serious complications are very rare with proper use.

Behavior after treatment

  • You should avoid sports, saunas and sunbathing for the first 48 hours.

  • Cooling can reduce swelling.

  • Make-up should not be applied until the following day at the earliest.

  • Drink enough water to support the breakdown process.

Light exercise (e.g. walking) is beneficial, while intense physical activity should be avoided during the first week.

What is possible with the fat-removal injection?

Injection lipolysis is ideal for contouring smaller areas. However, it is no substitute for traditional liposuction when larger volumes need to be reduced or the body contours significantly altered. With the right indication, however, the results are long-lasting and visible – without surgery or anesthesia.

A minimally invasive procedure in which Deoxycholic acid is injected directly into the fatty tissue. It specifically destroys fat cells, which are then broken down by the body.

It is most commonly used for submental fat (double chin). Other areas of application include small fat deposits, such as those on the chin, abdomen, hips, upper arms, or inner thighs.

It is ideal for small, locally limited fat padsThis makes it a non-surgical alternative, while larger changes through liposuction usually produce more effective results.

Most will be 2–6 sessions performed at intervals of 4–8 weeks. First results often appear after 6-8 weeks, the final results after 2–3 months.

The injections are well tolerated. Swelling, pressure, or tingling may occur afterward.

Normally there is no downtimeMinor swelling or bruising may be visible, but you can usually return to your daily routine and work immediately.

Mild reactions include swelling, redness, bruising, or pressure.

Yes – destroyed fat cells don't grow back. Maintaining a stable body weight is crucial for the results to last.
