Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty – Intimate surgery by women for women
Labia reduction—medically known as labiaplasty—is one of the most commonly performed genital surgical procedures worldwide. According to the 2025 DGÄPC statistics, genital surgery is one of the fastest-growing areas of aesthetic medicine, with an increase of over 11.8 % among women under 30. And for good reason: Many women suffer in silence for years from discomfort in the genital area—either out of shame, because they keep the issue to themselves, or because they don’t know that a safe, gentle solution exists.
In my clinic in Berlin-Charlottenburg, I offer you a space where you can speak openly about everything – without judgment, without pressure. My team consists exclusively of women. This is not a coincidence, but a matter of conviction: especially with such a personal topic as intimate surgery, the feeling of truly being understood is the crucial first step.
Why do women choose labiaplasty?
The reasons are as individual as the women themselves – and all are equally valid. Common causes include:
- Enlarged or asymmetrical inner labia (labia minora) that protrude beyond the outer labia (labia majora)
- Pain, pressure, or friction during exercise, cycling, running, or when wearing tight clothing (leggings, bikini)
- Discomfort or pain during sexual intercourse
- Recurring skin irritations, inflammation, or hygiene issues caused by excess tissue
- laxity or loss of volume of the labia majora after pregnancy, weight loss, or during the course of menopause
- Aesthetic discomfort or a diminished sense of body awareness – e.g. during sports, in the sauna or in intimate situations
Important: There is no standard for the female genital area. Enlarged or asymmetrical labia are anatomically normal and very common – they come in all sizes and shapes. A labiaplasty is advisable if it makes you feel more comfortable in your body or if functional discomfort is relieved. The decision is entirely up to you.
Why the all-female team makes a difference in intimate surgery
In my clinic, deliberately only women work – from reception to the operating room. Many of my female patients tell me that this fact alone made their decision easier. They speak in an environment that understands their perspective from personal experience. No discomfort, no need for explanation. Just openness, professional competence, and trust – in one of the most personal situations in which you can entrust yourself to a female doctor.
Range of treatments: What I can do for you
Intimate surgery is not a standardized procedure. At my clinic in Berlin-Charlottenburg, I offer the full spectrum of female intimate surgery – from minimally invasive to combination procedures.
1. Labiaplasty (labiaplasty of the labia minora)
The most common procedure: correction of the labia minora (inner labia) in cases of enlargement, asymmetry, or functional discomfort. I use the so-called 3D reconstruction technique—a method that does not simply cut away tissue, but preserves the natural shape of the mucosa. The result: a harmonious, natural-looking outcome with minimal scarring. For the surgery, I use an HF surgical device—a precise electrosurgical scalpel that works with almost no bleeding and accelerates healing.
2. Correction of the labia majora
The labia majora can be corrected in two ways:
- Toning through skin removal in cases of sagging or excess skin – e.g. after pregnancy or significant weight loss
- Autologous fat grafting (lipofilling) or hyaluronic acid for volume loss – for a fuller, more youthful appearance
3. Combination procedures
All described procedures can be combined with one another – upon request, also together with other aesthetic interventions such as a breast lift or liposuction. Which combination makes sense for you will be discussed during the detailed consultation.
Procedure: From consultation to result
Step 1: The consultation
The first step is a personal consultation – approx. 30–45 minutes. You tell me what is on your mind, what is bothering you, and what you wish for. I examine the findings, explain the possible methods to you, and answer all your questions. Without time pressure, without obligation. You make the decision for surgery at home, in your own time – that is my express recommendation.
Step 2: The operation
I perform labiaplasty as an outpatient procedure in my licensed private clinic. Depending on the desired outcome and the clinical findings, I choose either local anesthesia or twilight sleep (analgosedation). The surgery takes about 45 to 60 minutes. I use exclusively self-dissolving suture material—stitch removal is not necessary.
An important detail: Before the local anesthetic injections, I apply a numbing cream so that you will hardly feel the prick either. The surgery itself is completely painless.
Step 3: Aftercare & Healing
- Right after the surgery: Cooling of the surgical area, rest, no strenuous activities
- First 1–2 days: Mild swelling and bruising – completely normal, subside quickly
- After 1–2 weeks: Presentable in public, light daily activities possible
- After 2 weeks: slowly resume sports (no martial arts, no cycling)
- After 6 weeks: All restrictions lifted, result fully visible
- First period after surgery: Please replace tampons with pads
Follow-up appointments are scheduled as standard in my clinic after 1–2 days, after 2 weeks, and after 6 weeks. I am here for you – even between appointments.
Risks & Safety – What You Should Know
Labiaplasty is a safe, routine procedure with a very low complication rate. Typical, completely normal reactions in the first few days are:
- Swelling and hematomas (bruises) – usually subside within a few days
- Mild burning or soreness – easily manageable with simple pain relievers
- Temporary hypersensitivity – normalizes completely
Real complications such as wound healing disorders or infections are rare. By using an HF electrosurgical scalpel, I work with virtually no bleeding, which significantly reduces the risk of secondary hemorrhage. During the consultation, I will inform you in detail about all potential risks and contraindications, which include active infections, pregnancy, or untreated blood coagulation disorders.
Loss of sensitivity after the surgery?
No. The labiaplasty does not affect the clitoris itself, but exclusively the excess tissue of the labia. Studies and my own many years of experience show that sexual sensation is completely preserved after the procedure—for many patients, it improves because bothersome irritations are eliminated.
