The chin is an underrated feature of the facial profile. When viewed from the side, the forehead, nose, and chin should form a balanced line—if the chin is set back, the entire profile appears unbalanced, the nose looks larger than it is, and the lower half of the face appears soft and lacking in definition. This is not a cosmetic flaw, but rather an anatomical proportion that can be corrected in a very targeted manner.

Who is a good candidate for chin correction?

This procedure is an option for patients who:

• having a receding or set-back chin that makes the profile appear unbalanced
• suffer from a double chin caused by localized fat deposits
• want a sharper, more clearly defined jawline
• who want to achieve facial harmony after rhinoplasty or a facelift
• do not require significant correction of a malocclusion—purely aesthetic corrections can usually be addressed without oral surgery

Methods of Chin Correction

Depending on the initial situation and the desired outcome, I choose from among four proven methods:

Chin Implant

The permanent surgical solution for a receding chin. The silicone implant is inserted through a small incision inside the mouth—no external scar, no visible incision. The implant is anchored to the bone and remains in place permanently. The procedure takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes and is performed under local anesthesia with twilight sedation or general anesthesia.

Cheek Augmentation with Hyaluronic Acid

The minimally invasive alternative to surgery. Targeted injections along the chin-jaw line for greater projection and contour. The results are immediately visible, last approximately 12 to 18 months, and can be repeated or adjusted as needed. Ideal for patients who would like to try out the results first.

Chin Liposuction

For a pronounced double chin caused by localized fat deposits. The excess fat is gently removed through tiny incisions. Can be combined with a chin implant or hyaluronic acid injections.

Injection lipolysis (fat-dissolving injections)

For mild double chins without surgery. Multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart; low-risk and performed on an outpatient basis.

Procedure

Before the procedure, I’ll conduct a detailed analysis of your individual chin condition, including photographic documentation. Based on this, I’ll create a customized treatment plan. All procedures are performed on an outpatient basis—an overnight stay is not necessary. After approximately 2 to 3 hours in the recovery room, you can return home. Preparation

• Stop taking blood-thinning medications (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen) at least 14 days in advance
• Quit smoking at least two weeks in advance
• A compression bandage is applied immediately after the procedure—it's already prepared
• Schedule an escort for the trip home
• Prepare soft foods for the first few days after the procedure

Aftercare & Healing

• Compression bandage: Wear continuously for 4 to 7 days
• Relieve pressure on the chin: No direct pressure on the chin area
• Day One: Bed rest with the head slightly elevated is recommended
• Chewing: Avoid chewing hard foods for 2 to 3 weeks if possible—opt for soft foods instead
• Sports & Physical Activity: Avoid for 4 weeks
• Socially acceptable After about 1 week
• Threads: Dissolve on their own in the mouth—no need to pull them out

During the first 6 months after the procedure, several follow-up visits will take place at my clinic.

Risks & Potential Complications

Chin correction is a low-risk procedure when performed properly. Possible complications include:

• Swelling and bruising: Normal during the first few days; they subside quickly
• Numbness in the lower lip: Temporary, caused by nerve irritation; usually resolves completely
• Asymmetry: In rare cases, a follow-up correction may be advisable
• Implant dislocation: Very rare—minimized by precise anchoring to the bone
• Infections: Minimized through antibiotic prophylaxis and aseptic technique
