Wrinkle treatment with Botox
As young as you feel
Your path to a relaxed, youthful face
Life leaves its mark – some tell beautiful stories, while others make you look tired or tense, even when you don't feel that way inside. That is precisely the starting point for many of my female patients: not wanting to look younger than one is, but rather looking the way one truly feels.
Treatment with botulinum toxin has been one of the most thoroughly researched methods in aesthetic medicine for almost 30 years. At my clinic, Plastethics, located at Schlüterstraße 40 in Berlin-Charlottenburg – just a few minutes' walk from the Kurfürstendamm – I have been performing this treatment for nearly 20 years. Precise. Measured. And always with the goal that you look like you afterwards – just more rested.
As a certified speaker for the German Society for Botulinum Toxin Therapy (DGBT) and a Galderma speaker, I train colleagues myself in injection techniques. This is not a certificate on the wall – this is the difference between a good result and a very good one.
How does botulinum toxin (Botox) work?
Botulinum toxin – often referred to in everyday life as ‚Botox,‘ which is actually a brand name – is a highly precise muscle relaxant that has been used in medicine for over 30 years: initially in neurology, and today also in aesthetic medicine.
Injected precisely into specific facial muscles, it temporarily relaxes the musculature. Expression lines caused by repeated movements—frowning, pulling the eyebrows together, laughing—can no longer etch themselves as deeply. Existing wrinkles are gently smoothed out. The face looks fresher, more open, more rested. Without a stiff expression, without a mask-like effect—when the treatment is properly dosed.
Onset of action occurs after 4–14 days, and the effect lasts 3–6 months. With regular use, the muscles permanently relax somewhat – many female patients then only come in 1 to 2 times a year for a touch-up.
Which wrinkles do I treat with botulinum toxin?
Botulinum toxin is suitable for all dynamic wrinkles caused by facial expressions. These are my most common treatment areas:
frown line (glabellar lines between the eyebrows)
A confessed classic: Anyone who consistently looks grim or tense, even when they aren't. Treating the glabella region is one of my most precise procedures—a matter of just a few millimeters here.
Forehead wrinkles
The goal is not the frozen forehead, but the relaxed one. I dose very conservatively and preserve your natural mobility.
Crow's feet (laugh lines at the corners of the eyes)
Fine wrinkles that appear when laughing – the result is a fresh radiance, no tired corners of the eyes.
Bunny lines (fine lines at the bridge of the nose)
Often as a combination treatment with the glabella region, when the bridge of the nose is involved in frowning.
Nefertiti Lift (Neck and Jawline)
One of my favorite procedures for a visible effect without surgery: Botulinum toxin in the platysma muscle visually lifts the jawline and smooths neck bands. Highly effective, especially from the age of 40 and up.
Jaw Slimming (Jaw Reduction with Botox)
Targeted relaxation of the masseter muscle, which can be very prominent due to teeth grinding or a wide bone structure. Result: A visually slim, harmonious face.
Hyperhidrosis (sweating)
Botulinum toxin for excessive sweating in the armpits, hands, or feet – often with a life-changing effect. The treatment is covered by health insurance (with a medical prescription).
Bruxism (teeth grinding)
Relaxing the chewing muscle sustainably reduces pain and teeth grinding.
Gummy Smile (excessive gums when smiling)
A subtle injection into the upper lip muscle causes the upper lip to lift slightly less when smiling. A small injection with a big effect for a harmonious smile.
Baby Botox & preventive treatment: When is the right time?
A question I often hear: ‚Is it too early for me?‘ My honest answer: Prevention is often wiser than correction.
With so-called baby Botox, very small amounts are used – with the aim of preventing deep wrinkles from forming in the first place while fully preserving facial expressions. The effect is deliberately subtle: you look fresh, not ‚treated.‘.
Especially people with pronounced facial expressions or a genetic predisposition to deep forehead or frown lines benefit from an early start. We will discuss this option together during the consultation—always with a view to what suits you.
Botulinum toxin vs. hyaluronic acid – What is the difference?
Many female patients ask for ‚Botox lips‘ – however, lips are not treated with botulinum toxin, but with hyaluronic acid.e treated. Botulinum toxin relaxes muscles and thereby smooths expression lines. Hyaluronic acid, on the other hand, is used for volume enhancement, lip contouring, and deep static wrinkles. In my clinic, we very often combine both active ingredients – this yields the most natural and longest-lasting result.
Which products am I using?
I work exclusively with approved branded products from renowned manufacturers:
- Azzalure® (Galderma) – deliberate initial result, fine profile
- Bocouture® (Merz) – broad spectrum of activity, established standard
- Botox® (Allergan/AbbVie) – the original, tested for decades
I choose the product individually based on the treatment area, your muscle strength, and your personal tolerance. As a Galderma speaker, I know the products not only as a user, but also as a trainer.
How does a treatment work?
- Individual consultation: We take a look at your facial expressions and your wishes together – and I will honestly explain to you what is possible and what I recommend. Without time pressure.
- Preparation: Upon request, we can apply a numbing cream. Most female patients choose against it – the prick really is only brief.
- Treatment: With the finest needles and precisely measured amounts. The actual treatment takes about 10–15 minutes.
- Aftercare: No exercise, sauna, or direct sun on the day of the treatment. From the next day on, everything is permitted as usual.
- Result: Visible from days 4–6, with the final result after 10–14 days. And if you like, we can meet briefly 2 weeks later to review the results.
What You Should Know – Risks & Notes
Botulinum toxin is one of the most thoroughly researched substances in aesthetic medicine—when correctly dosed and applied, it is very safe. Nevertheless, the following information is part of a complete disclosure:
- Duration of Effect: The effect lasts 3–6 months—after that, the body completely breaks down the toxin. It is not a permanent procedure.
- Hematomas: Small bruises may form at the puncture sites, which disappear within a few days
- Asymmetries: In cases of very strong or uneven musculature, the result may initially appear slightly asymmetric – this will be corrected at the follow-up appointment after 2 weeks.
- Ptosis (drooping eyelid): Very rare – occurs when botulinum toxin diffuses into neighboring muscles. Extremely unlikely with experienced dosage and injection technique.
- Do not use during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, if you have a neuromuscular disorder, or if you are taking certain antibiotics
I discuss all contraindications and individual particularities during the consultation before every treatment
