Mommy Makeover
Get Back to Feeling Great in Your Body After Pregnancy
Pregnancy fundamentally changes the body—the abdominal wall stretches, the breasts lose volume and firmness, and stubborn fat deposits remain despite exercise. Many of these changes do not fully reverse after childbirth—not because something went wrong, but because the body has certain anatomical limits that cannot be overcome through exercise.
I am Dr. Juliane Bodo, a board-certified specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery in Berlin-Charlottenburg. The “mommy makeover” is not a set package, but rather a personalized treatment plan—tailored to your individual concerns and to what can be medically combined in a sensible way.
What is a mommy makeover?
The "mommy makeover" is a treatment concept that originated in the United States and combines several plastic and cosmetic procedures into one or more sessions. The main advantage: Instead of several separate surgeries, each with its own recovery time, multiple corrections can be performed in a single procedure—with one anesthesia and one healing phase.
Typical components, depending on the individual's specific situation:
- Breast lift – with or without an implant, even after breastfeeding
- Breast augmentation – to restore volume
- Tummy tuck – including rectus diastasis correction
- Liposuction – on the stomach, hips, or thighs
- Labiaplasty – in the event of changes due to childbirth or weight loss
- BodyTite™ – as a minimally invasive skin tightening procedure to complement liposuction
The choice of procedures is based solely on your preferences and the medical assessment—not on a standardized package.
Who is a mommy makeover suitable for?
A "mommy makeover" is a good option for women who:
- are experiencing physical changes following one or more pregnancies that have not resolved on their own
- have a sagging abdominal wall, rectus diastasis, or excess skin
- Have lost volume and firmness in the breasts
- Stubborn fat deposits that do not respond to exercise and diet
- have completed their family planning—another pregnancy would affect the results
- are physically healthy and have realistic expectations
Important: Your body should have fully recovered after giving birth. I recommend waiting at least 6 to 12 months after giving birth—and having completely finished breastfeeding—before we discuss breast surgery.
Procedure
After a detailed consultation, I will develop a personalized treatment plan. During this process, we will discuss which procedures can be effectively combined, the medically optimal order for them, and what can realistically be accomplished in a single session.
It is possible—and often advisable—to undergo multiple procedures at the same time, such as a breast lift and a tummy tuck. The decision depends on the patient’s health, the total extent of the procedures, and the planned duration of the surgery. For very extensive combinations, splitting the procedures into two sessions may be medically safer.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and lasts 3 to 6 hours, depending on its scope, and requires a 1- to 2-night hospital stay at my private clinic.
If the procedures are spread out over several sessions, I recommend waiting at least 6 months between surgeries. The body needs this time to fully recover, regain strength, and stabilize the initial results before the next procedure takes place.
Preparation
- Stop blood-thinning medications (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen) at least ten days in advance
- Quit nicotine at least four weeks beforehand – smoking significantly impairs wound healing
- Do not eat or drink anything starting at midnight before the procedure
- Purchase compression garments in advance—depending on the procedures, a bra, a girdle, or both
- Arrange childcare for the first few weeks after surgery—it is essential to take it easy physically during this time
- Schedule an escort for the trip home
Ensure you have support from family or loved ones—this isn’t just a recommendation, but a prerequisite for a good outcome. Anyone who cares for children, runs the household, and engages in physically demanding activities without help during the first few weeks after surgery does more harm than good to their body. Healing requires true rest.
Aftercare & Recovery
The recovery time depends on the extent of the procedures. As a general guide:
- Compression clothing: Wear it consistently for 6 weeks—depending on the procedure, a bra, a girdle, or both
- Physical rest: No heavy lifting, no sports for 6 weeks
- Lifting children: Avoid these activities during the first few weeks—this is especially important after a tummy tuck
- Socially acceptable After about 2 weeks
- Fit for work: For sedentary jobs, usually after 2 to 3 weeks
- Final result: Fully visible after about 6 months
I closely monitor my patients throughout the entire recovery process with follow-up appointments at my clinic.
Risks & Potential Complications
A mommy makeover is a surgical procedure—and when multiple procedures are combined, the risks of each individual surgery are cumulative. Possible complications include swelling, bruising, wound healing problems, and temporary changes in sensation in the surgical area. Scars will form depending on the procedure—I place them as discreetly as possible, for example, in the bra line or the bikini line. With abdominoplasty, there is a general risk of thrombosis, which is minimized by compression stockings and early mobilization.
Since several procedures are combined, preoperative counseling is particularly important. I discuss all specific risks in detail during a personal consultation—separately for each planned procedure.
Cost of a Mommy Makeover in Berlin.
The costs are as individual as each patient. They depend on the type, scope, and number of procedures selected, as well as whether they are performed on an outpatient or inpatient basis. During a personal consultation at my private clinic, I will create a treatment plan tailored to your situation, complete with a clear breakdown of costs. As a general guide: Costs typically start at approximately €9,000 for a combination of two procedures.
